Ketika minyak bumi (uang, “kebutuhan”) tidak berjodoh dengan lingkungan (biologi) -> negara seperti kanada pun jadi takluk

Sayang topik ini tidak masuk bahasan di pengelolaan limbah industri, padahal aktual sekali, sayang tugas essay cuma 1 kali saja yg ttg fenomena aktual, kalau dua kali, topik ini yang saya tulis (selain fracking gasland di US)

dari “penambangan” oil sands di Alberta di Kanada ini,

kanada berhasil memproduksi syncrude (synthetic crude oil)

seberapa “bahaya” proses ini, ini adalah salah satu penyebab kenapa kanada gagal memenuhi target penurunan emisi dari kyoto protokolnya (-6%) bahkan nyatanya malah menambah (27%) - see http://www.economist.com/node/14742472

Syncrude kanada itu kotor, mereka bikin crude oil d Alberta dr oil sands, ‘tar’ kaya bituminus (coal), high sulfur, tapi miskin hidrogen

Oil sands td di strip mining, btuh 2 ton tar spya jd 1 barrel crude oil, (virtual) water 4 m3 dan hidrogen dr gas bumi 200 m3, mahal dan boros

Syncrude jg sngat merusak lingkungan, tailing bahaya, burung landing d atasnya bisa mati, penuh asap hitam dan emisi GHG, limbah sulfur banyak

Tp syncrude kanada udh kaya synfuel nya Afsel, skrg dr syncrude mereka produksi 1,3 juta barel per hari (MBPD)! Dan proyeksi 6 MBPD saat 2018!

Mskipun kotor dan mahal, biaya pengolahan syncrude ini ternyata mnjadi ekonomis d tengah kenaikan harga mnyak dunia: dan makin kesini makin murah

Tahun 1980, pengolahan syncrude biayanya 35 us dollar per barel, sekarang cukup hanya dgn 20an dollar saja, jelas kanada terus eksploitasi syncrude ini

Masalah suplai gas bumi (hidrogen), kanada ga tkut karena udh nyiapin Mackenzie gas project, gas d ktub utara bersih, emas d sana jg plg oke (orang teknik disana udah paham gimana implementasiin model ekonomi Leontief)

Salah satu alasan yg mmbuat kanada nyaman eksploitasi syncrude jg adalah NAFTA, dan pelanggan utamanya: US, tetangga sangat dekat yang haus minyak
